A small bobtailed tom slipped through the underbrush. He was tan and his pelt bore darker speckles in a stripe down his back. Specklestripe's green eyes glowed with excitement as he scented a woodmouse nearby. His big paws padded closer, quiet and unnoticed by the mouse. He dropped into a crouch as he came nearer to it and his fur tipped ears strained forward eagerly. He held still for a moment before propelling himself forward with his powerful hind legs. He easily caught the mouse as it looked up and tried to scamper a moment late. He gave it a last bite and then kicked some earth over it.

"Hello, Specklestripe." A tall orange tom walked through the brush. "Nice catch." Lioneyes added, looking over at the woodmouse Specklestripe had just caught.

Specklestripe smiled. 'Thanks.' He finished burying the mouse and then looked at Lioneyes curiously. 'You out on a hunt too or are you just kinda hanging out?' He sat down and gave his pelt a lick before turning his attention back to Lioneyes.

"Well, I was just taking a small break from hunting." Said Lioneyes. "I was on a patrol all morning." He sat down and licked his paw, then drew it over his ear.

Specklestripe nodded. 'That sounds fun.' he muttered, refering to the patrol. He wasn't a very playful cat, though he could be if he was in the right mood. He shook himself, realizing that he was being crabby, something that he was trying to get better at. 'So, caught much yet?' He worked a smile up to his face.

"Just a rabbit." Lioneyes said. "Its back there." He gestured behind the brush with his tail. "Been hunting long?"

Specklestripe nodded. 'Since this morning, so quite a while. Caught a mouse and a finch, and then this mouse hunting has been good today.' Specklestripe smiled. 'Rabbits are pretty hard for me to catch since I have these short legs.' he looked down at his stocky legs with a growl.

Lioneyes nodded. "Although I can not relate to that, I am very sorry for your pain." He curled his tail over his long legs and smiled softly.
"Hello, Specklestripe. Hello, Lioneyes." A pretty she-cat with reddish splotches all over her furry white body. Her unusual blue eyes searched Specklestripe and her father. "What are you two doing?"

Specklestripe growled half-heartedly. 'Be glad that you can't relate to it.' He looked up as the she-cat walked into view. 'Talking.' Was all he said, a grin plain on his face. He twitched an ear and waited for her reaction. His dry humor often took cats off gaurd, and he waited for her to show her surprise.

"Oh." The pretty she-cat smiled and licked her chest fur. "Mind if I join you?" She asked expectantly and sat down.
"Fine with me. What do you say, Specklestripe?" Lioneyes mewed politely. He smiled at his daughter.

Specklestripe shrugged. 'I ain't going to complain.' He smiled and licked his large paw. 'You been out hunting too? he asked Nightflower. He looked at her closely as he waited for an answer.

"Yeah, I caught a finch and a mouse. They're already in the fresh-kill pile." Rosethorn said, and kneaded her long claws in the dirt.

Specklestripe smiled. 'Hunting's good today.' He yawned and looked up at the sky, then down at his paws, and then back up at the other two warrior before him.

"Yes."Lioneyes said."I think that today is one of the finest days Ive seen in moons." He looked up at the clear sky. "That must be why all the prey are out." He added. The orange tom shook his pelt.

Specklestripe nodded. 'Yup, they go out to enjoy the beautiful day and then BAM! They don't know what hit them.' He smiled and licked one of his paws casually, he wasn't good at starting conversations.
